Research focus

Dr. Jain studies how depression treatments, ranging from antidepressant medications to psychotherapeutic techniques such as meditation and mindfulness, influence the neurophysiology of depression. The tools he uses include functional magnetic resonance imaging, heart rate variability, blood based biomarkers, and sociodemographic factors.

Clinical focus

Dr. Jain is an attending psychiatrist in the Adult Depression Clinic at UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics.

Teaching focus

Dr. Jain is the director of the UCSF Psychiatry Residency Scholarship Curriculum. He supervises psychiatry residents and medical students learning to diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, substance abuse, and personality disorders. He also directs a psychotherapy supervision group for residents.
